American Girl Comics

I’m a member of an AG adult only forum called American Girl Playthings. Every time I log in I see a header very similar to a blog header about AG that changes sometimes every month, sometimes every once in a while. These are the most hilarious AG headers I’ve ever seen. My dolls have also enjoyed them tremendously and one day Caroline got Jess and Lea to ‘act out’ one of the headers. The dolls had so much fun doing it they wanted to act out all the headers! I got permission from the amazing creator named Ken who comes up with these headers to share it with all of you along with my own comments on what’s going on and how I made the re-enacted ones (I’m sure someone with better computer skills could have done a much better job than me, but I tried my best. I’m surprised at how long this took me to do, and how much effort in editing it involved. It makes me even more appreciative to what Ken does). Take your time to look at them all, there are lots of details, (especially on the cartoons) that you might miss.

Obviously this was created in January 2014 when Isabelle was first introduced. I love how all the GOTYs of the past are jealous and Saige, who had to recently give up her status as current GOTY, is especially upset. I was not very ambitious here and just used Heather’s ballet barre for the barricade gate, and can you tell the red carpet is the sheet from Molly’s bed? Since I don’t own Chrissa, Ruthie is standing in for her wearing the pinkest dress I could find.

If you remember back in February of 2014 rumors/confirmations that Samantha was coming back in the fall were starting to look really promising. Here’s the gangster girl:

I just found out from Ken, this girl isn’t a gangster, she’s the Parkinator!! I’ve never seen the Terminator movie but Ken made a movie poster parody on it using Samantha (blow this pic up and read every word!):

I don’t have a black jacket that fits this style so Sam is wearing the gold one from the Jacket and Skirt outfit from 2003. Her gloves are from the 1996 rollerblading outfit and the sunglasses are OG.

Then for Valentine’s Day some of the GOTYs had quite a party:

I made Chrissa’s trash can by wrapping paper around a cylindrical container. I made Lanie’s recycle bin out of an AG box. I just took the cover off and covered it with green paper and used a white crayon to write ‘recycle’.

In March Isabelle ‘celebrated’ St. Patrick’s day with Nellie at the factory:

I only have one sewing machine so poor Izzy was forced to cut all the shamrocks out instead!

I don’t own Marisol so Josefina is standing in for her. I also had a hard time editing this one. I used two different editors to do this, one to draw the speech bubble and another to add the text. Marisol is supposed to have a speech bubble around “Dance off” but as you can see I drew it in the wrong spot above Lanie’s head and it wouldn’t let me erase it. I also couldn’t cross Isabelle’s name out.

Which sweater do you like better? Have you noticed Lindsey and Jess are so old they have gray and white hair and can’t tell the difference between two pinks?

At first this one was tricky; how in the world was I going to get my dolls hair pink temporarily? Then I thought, why not add paper highlights? That’s exactly what I did. Here are some more up close pics of some of the girls you can’t see very well:

Kanani just has long strips in her hair.

Saige was very against this so she just got a band around her hair.

I curled Marisol (Ruthie) and Lanie’s.

Jess got special treatment with pink ribbons in her braids (she still hasn’t taken them out yet!)

I wanted to curl Lindsey’s but her hair is so short it was too hard to get them in. It’s funny that you can see my paper highlights so much better than Isabelle’s actual highlights. My Izzy’s hair is so thick they’re barely noticeable which was why I put her hair up for this pic.

Do you remember when McDonalds had the little Isabelle dolls available for the happy meals? All the GOTYs were excited about that. Jacky is standing in for Kailey and I used the take-out boxes from the AG dining activity set as the happy meal boxes.

Coming up is a whole comic series in celebration of the 4th of July! I love this!

Here’s mine:

Yes, I know! There’s no cartoon comic for the 5th of July! Well, Ken made a gallery of many of theses cartoons but he didn’t include all of them. Me, being the nut I am, wrote down all the cartoons I saw whenever I checked the site, which is why I’m able to give you the 5th of July and the rest of the ones to come. I know it’s not as good as seeing them for real, but I did my best in showing the re-enacted version. (How I wish I could’ve made Molly have googly eyes in part 3!)

The end of July 2014 was a sad time for AG. There was a major threat that a whole bunch of dolls were going to be retired, and of course it turned out to be true:

Every once in a while I really wish dolls could have different facial expressions. Marie Grace looks worried and Cecile looks mad, Ivy is scowling, and Ruthie is sad. Obviously I don’t own Ivy and very few 70s clothes, so Suki is standing in for her.

Then, in late August Samantha made her return. I don’t have any BF Samantha clothes so I looked for the pinkest dress I could find.

Saige got really excited in December when Isabelle’s GOTY reign was up:

I did mine backwards because I got this cartoon later:

Even bigger set up:

She had been working hard on her lasso skills all year and could finally put them to good use!

Ken got really busy in 2015 so Grace didn’t get very many cartoon episodes. In fact, she didn’t even show up until November!

Poor Saige. She’s still really mad!

It was Isabelle’s turn to tell Grace her reign was up:

Bo is standing in for Bon Bon.

When Lea arrives, she makes quite an entrance, and many of the GOTYs like it:

Do you know why Grace is saying, “I’m 30% cooler than all of you?” If you remember around this time last year she, and practically all of her things went on a 30% off sale.

Only a month into her stay, she set up her fruit stand among stiff competition:

Yes, this has a lot going on! Lanie is looking to buy items from Lea at the Bahia Berry, and Kanani is pulling her hair out in frustration over lost sales at her shave ice stand. Grace is having trouble pushing her pastry cart through the sand while trying not to have any sand get into her treats! There is even an underlying tone of  ‘the war of the medium accessory sets’, which one is the best?

Obviously I don’t have any big GOTY sets so I had to make do and invent with what I have.

Just like in my photo stories, Jess and Lea became best friends:

Caroline is supposed to be a pirate ghost. I’m sure there is some way to make her translucent on the computer but I don’t know how to do it. I apologize for the blurriness of this picture.

The final pic of the cartoons at least for the year of 2016 is all the GOTYs lined up:

In the original they were lined up in a V shape but the dolls wouldn’t fit on my dresser that way!

For 2017, Gabby arrived she was readily embraced by her dancing GOTY friends:

According to Ken, Isabelle is doing an impersonation of Edna Mode from the Incredibles. (I’ve never seen the Incredibles so I wouldn’t know):

My version:

I hope you got a chuckle out of this post. I had a great time setting my dolls up for all of them. Thanks again to Ken for letting me do this on my blog and also creating these great cartoons! I plan to update this post as more cartoons roll in.
